The making of a painting is what is important to me as a painter, the process in itself ignites me. Living a simple rural life provides me with daily offerings which always inform my paintings. Incorporating nature and open air daily life enhances my lived experiences with looking. From strolls experiencing the landscape, to sitting on the bench looking out into the distance, I bring the essence of these experiences back into the studio, ultimately settling into the making of a painting that embodies these experiences to explore in my works. Paint has no limitations for me, offering me the simplicity I require in my life and it’s a way of being within the quiet. I have found my place in this world and dedicate my days to exploring through paint my relationship with the natural world.
My studio is comfortably nestled into the loft of an 1860’s Victorian gothic farmhouse overlooking my surroundings. I live my days immersed in the quiet rhythms of nature and the beauty found within moments of presence. My husband Brandon Steen also an artist and our English bull terriers Dolores and Paddy live just outside the quaint little village of Warkworth in Trent Hills, Ontario.
